Puerto Limón está ubicado en la costa caribeña de Costa Rica a 173 km
del Aeropuerto Juan Santa María. Es el principal puerto del país y el
centro económico de toda la provincia.
Se caracteriza por tener la mayor población negra de todo el país, y
destaca por el crisol de razas que en ella habitan y su población tiene
distintos orígenes tales como español, jamaicano, italiano, Antillas
francesas, alemán, chino, judío, libanés, turco, inglés, nicaragüense,
colombiano, cubano, etc.
A pesar de que el español es el idioma oficial, se hablan otras lenguas
como el inglés y el kryol limonense por parte de la población
afrodescendiente, los cuales se extienden por la zona litoral atlántica, así
como los idiomas indígenas: el bribri, y el cabécar, en los cercanos
cantones de Talamanca y Matina.
La comida limonense le aporta a la cultura costarricense una gran
variedad de platillos, estos vienen desde el Rice and Beans, Chicheme,
Pan Bon, Agua de sapo, Rondón, el Pati, el Plantita. La gastronomía
caribeña ha hecho del cantón central de Limón un lugar único a nivel
nacional tanto así que es demasiado extraño ver estos platillos fuera de
la ciudad y muchos costarricenses no saben de la existencia de estas
comidas.

such as the indigenous languages: Bribri, and Cabécar, in the nearby
cantons of Talamanca and Matina.
Food from Limón brings to Costa Rican culture a great
variety of dishes, these come from Rice and Beans, Chicheme,
Bread Bon, Agua de sapo, Rondón, el Pati, el Plantita. The gastronomy
Caribbean has made the central canton of Limón a unique place worldwide
national so much so that it is too strange to see these dishes out of
the city and many Costa Ricans do not know of the existence of these
foods.
