Italy names team for London 2012 Olympic Games • World Triathlon

El Comité Olímpico Italiano ha confirmado al equipo de triatlón que representará al país en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012. Alessandro Fabian y Davide Uccellari competirán en el evento de triatlón masculino, y Annamaria Mazzetti, en el femenino.

Mazzetti ha tenido dos años muy buenos en el circuito ITU, período que coincidió con el de clasificación olímpica. La atleta ganó tres medallas de plata en Copas Mundo ITU, en Huatulco 2011, Tiszaujvaros 2011, y Holten 2010, además de una medalla de bronce en el Campeonato Europeo de Triatlón ETU 2011 ETU. La atleta hará su debut olímpico en los Juegos de Londres 2012.

Fabian y Uccellari también debutan en la arena olímpica, además de ser atletas en ascenso en el ranking de la ITU. Fabian coronó su período de clasificación con un quinto puesto en el evento Mundial de Triatlón ITU Madrid 2012, mejor resultado en su carrera. El campeón Mundial de Duatlón Sub23 2009 también fue quinto en los Campeonatos Europeos de Triatlón 2011 y 2012.

Uccellari llegó al podio de Copas Mundo ITU por primera vez este año en Ishigaki y su medalla de plata le bastó para ubicarlo en la escena de la clasificación olímpica donde permaneció hasta su finalización el 31 de mayo. En el Campeonato Europeo de Triatlón ETU Sub23 en Eilat el atleta también fue medalla de plata. A sus 20 años, se convierte en uno de los atletas más jóvenes del triatlón masculino de los juegos de Londres.
