On March 25, 2001, while on a training exercise with the Army National Guard, I was standing between two Humvees when they hit. My body was crushed and I sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury and an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury. I suffer from Dysautonomia and numerous other injuries and disabilities. I am paralyzed on my left lower extremity and partially paralyzed on my upper left and right lower extremities.
Following the accident, I spent 5 years going through numerous medical examinations, tests, procedures, surgeries, and failed rehabilitations. My health continued to decline and I was told I would sit in a chair on medication the rest of my life. Inspired by a local triathlon in 2006 and despite my physical conditions and disabilities, I decided to start training to complete a triathlon. The training for triathlons strengthened my body and helped reduce my pain. In 2007, I completed my 1st post-injury triathlon.
I am a stay at home father of 3. The youngest just turned 3 years old.
