Whitfield welcomes winter athletes
Beijing Olympic silver medallist and Sydney gold medallist Simon Whitfield was a part of the ceremony to officially invite the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the world to attend the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
The Canadian star carried his national flag during a traditional ceremony in front of a live audience at the brand new Richmond Olympic Oval.
Whitfield who is busy preparing for the 2009 Dextro Energy Triathlon- ITU World Championship series, took time out of his busy schedule to take part in the ceremony.

During the same ceremony IOC President Jacques Rogge called upon the worlds athletes to come and compete in Vancouver in one years time.
Inviting the athletes to Vancouver, Rogge said, The Olympic Games engender dreams and inspiration in the hearts of young people everywhere. For athletes around the world the chance to compete next year in Vancouver will be their goal, the culmination of a lifetimes ambition. I wish them all good luck, and on behalf of the IOC, I invite them to participate in the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, one year from now.
At the same time athletes are training and competing on the spectacular Olympic venues in Vancouver and Whistler, ITUs own winter triathletes are getting ready to compete in this weekends Winter Triathlon World Championships in Gaishorn, Austria.
The Elite, U23 and Junior races take place on Saturday and the Team Championships take place on Sunday.

El medallista de plata Olmpico de Beijing y de oro en Sydney Simon Whitfield form parte de la ceremonia que oficialmente invita la los Comits Olmpicos Nacionales (CONs) del mundo para asistir a los Juegos Olmpicos de Invierno en Vancouver.
La estrella canadiense port su bandera nacional durante una ceremonia tradicional delante del pblico en el nuevo Anillo Olmpico de Richmond.
Whitfield, que est ocupado preparndose para las series de los Campeonatos del Mundo ITU de Triatln Dextro Energy 2009, hizo un hueco en su apretada agenda para formar parte de la ceremonia.

Durante la misma ceremonia el Presidente del COI Jacques Rogge invit a todos los atletas del mundo a que vengan y compitan en Vancouver dentro de un ao.
Rogger invitando a los atletas a Vancouver dijo, Los Juegos Olmpicos generan los sueos y la inspiracin en los corazones de los jvenes de todo el mundo. Para los atletas de todo el mundo la oportunidad de competir el prximo ao en Vancouver ser su objetivo, la culminacin de toda una vida de ambicin. Les deseo a todos ellos buena suerte y en nombre del COI, invito a todos a participar en los XXI Juegos Olmpicos de Invierno en Vancouver, que tendrn lugar dentro de un ao.
Al mismo tiempo, los atletas estn entrenando y compitiendo en las espectaculares sedes Olmpicas de Vancouver y Whistler. Mientras tanto los propios triatletas de invierno de la ITU estn preparados para competir este fin de semana en los Campeonatos del Mundo de Triatln de Invierno ITU en Gaishorn, Austria.
Las carreras lite, Sub23 y Junior tendrn lugar el sbado y los Campeonatos por Equipos tendrn lugar el domingo.
