Potts & Reed Ready to Race
17 June 2009
Americans Andy Potts and Matt Reed are hitting top form and are prepared to hold off the European challenge ahead of this Sunday’s men’s Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series race in Washington, DC.
The duo have been extremely successful in domestic triathlons in recent weeks and are looking to carry their winning ways into the third leg of the series.
Reed competed at the opening leg of the series in Tongyeong, South Korea but was disappointed with his result, finishing in 35th, three minutes behind winner Bevan Docherty.

“It’s great for the sport, it’s getting more professional now and it’s going to be fantastic racing,” says Reed of the new Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship. “It’s got the best athletes in the world concentrating on this one series.”
“I am fit and fast and ready to race DC,” continued Reed, 33. “I am happy with where I am at in the season and am looking forward to the fun, fast racing in Washington.”
However, Reed won’t commit to predicting an outcome. “It is a World Championship, so you never know (what will happen). Andy and I might break away shortly into the bike leg, get a 1min 30sec lead and run shoulder to shoulder for the win. Now wouldn’t that be cool?”
Washington will be Potts’ first Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship race, and he is enthusiastic about the hype and publicity that the series brings to triathlon.
“The ITU does a fantastic job of promoting the sport of triathlon and getting it into the limelight,” the 32-year-old said. “It’s reaching more people and making the sport of triathlon accessible to more people. It’s fantastic and world-class racing.”
Both athletes will be wearing Suunto Comfort Belts during the event. Made possible by Suunto technology, their heart-rates, speed and GPS positioning data will be broadcast live throughout the race and also on the live video stream available via www.triathlon.org/tv.
