Welcoming Egypt to the ITU Family

28 August 2009

Founder and President of the Egyptian Triathlon Federation, Ahmed Nasser Mohamed, has established one of Africa’s principal National Federations. The former Olympian and Modern Pentathlon world champion has a strong background across many sports as both a competitor and TV commentator. He now runs a successful TV and media production company.

Egypt has a strong history with the IOC and has well established links with the Olympic movement; it is hoped that the Egyptian Triathlon Federation will soon be able to enter elite calibre athletes into major triathlon competitions on a regular basis, and eventually fulfil their dream of having an Olympic representative in the sport.

The Egyptian Triathlon Federation will play a key role in the development of the sport in North Africa and particularly amongst the Arab world. With ITU Congress being held shortly on Gold Coast, Australia, ITU looks forward to welcoming Mr Nasser and members of the Egyptian Triathlon Federation to Australia and forming close ties to benefit both parties as the sport of triathlon continues to develop across North Africa and the Middle East.
