Gomez Ready to Shine At Home

Unable to compete in the opening round of the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series due to an ankle injury, Spaniard Javier Gomez is ready to return to triathlon’s top flight on May 31 when he races in his home leg of the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series in Madrid.

The reigning world champion says his run fitness has been hampered by the injury, but that he has sharpened his speed in the water and on the bike.

“Unfortunately I lost some important weeks of running because of the problem in my ankle,” the 26-year-old says. “On the other hand my swim is going very well and I have improved my cycling a lot.

“I’ve finished some high-level cycling races here in Spain with the top riders, which I’m happy about.”

“I’ll be in good shape for the Madrid race, ready to fight for victory.”

Gomez will be one of a number of athletes wearing a Suunto Comfortbelt during the cycling and run sections of the event. Made possible by Suunto technology, his heart-rate, speed and GPS positioning data will be broadcast live throughout the race and also on the on-demand videos available via the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series television website.

The Spanish star will be at the Suunto booth at the start area of the Madrid race between 17.30 and 19.00 on May 30 where he will be available to meet fans and sign autographs.

Después de no haber podido correr en la primera prueba de las Series de los Campeonatos del Mundo de Triatlón ITU Dextro Energy, el español Javier Gómez está preparado para volver al triatlón de máximo nivel el 31 de Mayo, en la prueba de su país, de las Series de los Campeonatos del Mundo de Triatlón ITU Dextro Energy, que tendrá lugar en Madrid.

El actual campeón del mundo dice que su preparación se ha visto obstaculizada por la lesión, pero le ha servido para mejorar su velocidad en el agua y en la bicicleta.

“Desafortunadamente he perdido varias semanas importantes de entrenamiento por mis problemas de tobillo,” comentó el triatleta de 26 años de edad. “Por otro lado mi natación va muy bien y he mejorado mucho en la bicicleta.

“He terminado algunas carreras del máximo nivel aquí en España con los mejores corredores, con lo que estoy muy contento.”

“Estaré en buena forma para la carrera de Madrid, preparado para luchar por la Victoria.”

Gómez será uno de los atletas que lleve un cinturón Suunto Comfortbelt durante los segmentos de ciclismo y carrera a pie de la prueba. Gracias a la tecnología de Suunto, se ofrecerá información referente a su ritmo cardiaco, a la velocidad y a la posición por GPS. También estarán disponibles los vídeos previa petición, gracias a la página web de las Series de los Campeonatos del Mundo de Triatlón ITU Dextro Energy.

La estrella española estará en el stand de Suunto, situado en la expo área de la carrera de Madrid entre las 17:30 y 19:00 del 30 de Mayo, donde firmará autógrafos y sus fans le podrán conocer.
